GRENADA TRAVEL GUIDE
Grenada, often dubbed the “Spice Isle,” offers a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences, making it a must-visit destination in the Caribbean.
Whether you’re a beach lover, a foodie, or an adventure seeker, Grenada has something to captivate your senses.
We spent two summers in Grenada during the Caribbean hurricane season, safely tucked in a hurricane hole on our sailboat, and we never ran out of things to do.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Grenada is typically during the dry season, which runs from December to April. During these months, the weather is warm and sunny, with minimal rainfall, making it perfect for beach activities, scuba diving, snorkeling, and exploring the island’s natural beauty.
December to April is also the peak tourist season, so you’ll find more vibrant local events, lively beach bars, and restaurants. This period is especially ideal if you’re looking to enjoy popular spots like Grand Anse Beach or take a day trip to Carriacou without the interruption of tropical storms.
If you prefer a quieter, less crowded experience and don’t mind the occasional shower, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons in May, June, or November. The island is still lush, and prices for accommodations might be lower, though you should be aware of the potential for more rainfall as you approach the hurricane season.
For those looking to sail their boats to Grenada during hurricane season, it’s an excellent choice due to its location outside the hurricane belt. Grenada offers several safe hurricane holes, with Clarke’s Court Bay and Mount Hartman Bay being popular options for securing your vessel.
Know Before You Go
- Language: English is the official language of Grenada, so communication is easy for English-speaking visitors. You may also hear locals speaking Grenadian Creole English, which is influenced by French, African, and English languages.
- Currency: The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), often abbreviated as EC$. The exchange rate is generally stable, pegged to the US Dollar at a rate of 1 USD = 2.70 XCD. US Dollars are widely accepted on the island, but it’s helpful to have some local currency for smaller purchases.
- Airports: Grenada is served by Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND), located in the southwestern part of the island near St. George’s. This airport offers direct flights to and from several major cities in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
- Plugs and Voltage: Grenada uses Type G electrical outlets, the same as in the UK. The standard voltage is 230V with a frequency of 50Hz. If your devices are from a country with a different plug type or voltage, you may need a plug adapter and possibly a voltage converter.
ADVENTURES IN GRENADA
GRENADA TRAVEL GUIDE
One of the most unique and captivating attractions in the Caribbean, blending art, conservation, and marine life. Located in Molinere Bay, this underwater gallery is the creation of British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, a visionary artist renowned for his work in underwater art installations all over the world.
Weekend at True Blue Bay Resort
Sometimes you need to get off the boat for a little land time. We had a little staycation at the colorful True Blue Bay Resort and enjoyed a fun-filled weekend playing games, sunning at the pool, and taking in a couple tasty drinks at the beach bar.

SPEND A DAY…
Hash Hike on Saturday
This type of fun, free event is called “hashing” and the participants are called “hashers”. The hosts have been meeting every Saturday since 1985 to participate in a walk (or run) through beautiful terrain. This is a great way to stay fit, be part of a fun group and be introduced to some unknown parts of the island.
Food Truck Container Park
Another favorite of mine for a cheap lunch or a morning iced chai latte. This is a container park with modern food vendors, very popular with the local college kids. The Veggie Burger at Burger Spoke is top notch.
Hike to Hog Island
Spend a full day hiking from the main island, across the bridge to Hog Island. This beautiful, secluded island has a cute beach and a casual barefoot beach bar. Grab a cold drink and watch the boats sail by. Once you’re done you can take a water taxi back to the mainland.
